Heart Health Check

Heart Health Check (HHC) allowed all Australian residents who are over 45 years old to receive a comprehensive initial heart assessment. This helps them to understand their risk for heart disease and estimate how likely they will have a heart attack or stroke in the next five to ten years.

Why do you need this?

Because heart disease and stroke are responsible for almost 30% of all deaths and 15% of Australia’s total disease burden.  A lot of people suffered from their first heart attack between the age of 50 to 60 years old and the trend is moving towards an even earlier age.  To identify the risk factors through our HHC and to advise you on the relevant lifestyle, modification seems to be the most effective preventive health care in the current era.

How do you do it?

STEP ONE:

Discuss with our doctor that you would like to have a Heart Health Check.  He will arrange a fasting blood test for you to check all the important relevant blood tests.  Then make an appointment at the reception desk for a 1-hour Heart Health Check.

STEP TWO:

Complete the fasting blood tests.  12 hours fasting is mandatory but clear water is allowed.

STEP THREE:

Attend the 1-hour HHC appointment. Our experienced nurse consultant and doctor will collect an extensive cardiovascular history, perform Electrocardiography (ECG) and other simple measurements such as blood pressure, heart rate, weight, height and BMI. Risk analysis will be calculated, and necessary lifestyle modification shall be discussed. In some cases, further cardiovascular investigations will be considered, e.g. Treadmill Ultrasound or Echocardiography. If necessary, referral to cardiologist might also be required.

Change of Billing Policy:

Effective
1 December 2024, a $35 out-of-pocket fee incurs to all private GP consultations due to the SA Government applying payroll tax on private GP billings from July 2024.
Please be noted that a $5 incl. GST Administration Fee will be added to your invoice as part of your out-of-pocket fee.
We continue to bulk-bill kids under 16y/o (Medicare card holders) and concession card holders for Weekdays appointments. Gap fee applies on all Saturday appointments.

Why is the administration fee being applied?
SA Government & Revenue SA have decided to impose payroll tax liability to independent GP private billings. However this payroll tax falls on the practice, not the practitioner. As a result of this imposition, our practice has been forced to revise the billing policy to cover the additional operating cost.

We encourage all patients to sign the petition raised by RACGP to object the payroll tax so that we can continue to deliver an affordable service to patients.
